Visiting Workshop in Takaoka: For the Sake of Anyone Who We Might not Have Seen Yet SEASON3

Viewing films, animations, mangas and literatures (as we call ‘sub-cultural media’) ever made in Takaoka, Toyama prefecture and Hokuriku area as our important reference, the workshop’s aim is to derive the women’s images and lives from these characters in order to find a vision for the future of the place. It’s opened to students, business workers and all who is interested in film, architecture, literature or art as well as the place. No creative skills are necessary though we’ll ask you to make two or three-dimensional work. English speakers are very much welcomed to join.
＊’ For the Sake of Anyone Who We Might not Have Seen Yet’ is taken from Satoko Kizaki’s the Akutagawa Literature Prize awarded novel, The Phoenix Tree (1985).

○Workshops

Workshop 1 ‘Women in Hokuriku in Manyo-shu (the Collection of a Myriad Leaves)’：
14 October 2018 14:00-16:00 reservation required/fee 500yen
This is a trial to make picture letter or tanzaku inspired from Yakamochi Otomo’s poem from Manyo-shu about a woman in Toyama prefecture in old days. No skills and knowledges are necessary.

Workshop 2 ‘Reading book club - the Phoenix Tree- ’(hosted by Fumio Watanabe):
15 October 2018 14:00-16:00 reservation required/fee 500yen Reading the 92th Akutagawa prize Awarded book, The Phoenix Tree (Aogiri, 1985) that is a story about a family living in Takaoka, written by Satoko Kizaki and exchanging the impression on it, we discuss the book about not just as a literature but also as a suggestion for human life and global environmental issue. Please do not hesitate and join us even if you don’t know about the book.
(Fumio Watanabe is a natural farming practitioner who lives both in Nanto-city, Toyama pref. and Okinawa. He had book club several times about th Phoenix Tree for thirty years.)
